Building A Universe Competition! #BAUniC <Virtual_Universe> 2016-09-01 06:56 PDT
#BAUniC is a collaborative project where efforts of various contributors get together in making it easier for people with ideas to render them in a computer. The ideas regard fractal deterministic universes, similar to the 'Game of Life', (or maybe even the 'e=mc2 physics'), that start from any paradox and continue through the maths and programming producing complexity that makes sense to the observers (like stable orbits, particles, energy transference, survival, evolution).
We are seeking allies and volounteers.

Positions needing more and/or better people on the task:
Builders (always need for new competing blood), Organizers and Promoters.

Details:
* Social media Generals, Officers, Guerrilla, Cavalry, Infantry, Guardian Angels
* Maths Students, Enthusiasts, Masters, SuperStars
- stable grid combinations
- variable grid elements
- generating functions
- polynomialize
- extra dimensional resonances
- infinity folds
- exceptions
* Physics Students, Enthusiasts, Masters, SuperStars
- adapting physics concepts to grids
- finding emergent phenomena
- finding self-consistent exceptions
* Computer Students, Enthusiasts, Masters, SuperStars
- rendering
- creating loops
- coding/optimizing loops
- path from formula to exe
- debug/documentation
* Metaimagination
- grids
- resonances, shepard tones, echoes
- combinations of structures
* Debuggers
* Testers
* Documenters

A link to this forum thread will be posted on the current main #BAUniC site for Craigslist friendly interested parties to have a familiar place to hang around.
I tried posting it once per city on Craigslist, but the fliers got blown away by the wind of antispam. Sadly one may try hard to get a worthy project noticed, and in a sense become similar to the advertising enemy of force sales and bottom line, and still overcrowded by spam and ads. If you can help replicating that ad on to your city, it would be a group work that helps the world, and I hope I am not in the wrong place to seek cooperation with anons of the internet (I mean Craigslist, beyond forums or ad places). But, if someone can help make #BAUniC better, promotion or organization, yay! If not, I will keep doing my little thing with the obsession that otherwise would be catching pokemon or leveling up WoW characters, but guided towards this worthy cause instead.

Thank you for your attention.

Looks like a pyramid scheme <flyjazz> 2016-09-01 07:11 PDT
From http://baunic.blogspot.com/2016/02/building-universe-competition.html : "Monetary donations will go to the pot to be distributed among winning challengers...Monetary donations will be rewarded with votes, which can be used to judge competing projects." What could go wrong there?

It aims to be a pyramid scheme <Virtual_Universe> 2016-09-01 07:23 PDT
A lot could go wrong. But also a lot could go right. Right now it is a decentralized pyramid scheme by design. Interested parties can make their own pyramids, preferably away from us since handling those kinds of coins, in our kind of world, is potentially dangerous, and unsatisfying. The #BAUniC team is interested in changing the world till money becomes useless, and to do that will employ a lot of unorthodox means.

If you're interested in changing the world until <flyjazz> 2016-09-01 07:43 PDT
...money becomes useless then I hope you consider methods that don't involve a pyramid scheme for money that is masquerading as a design competition. One example might be to pick some random middle school kids from Rojava-North Syria to judge the designs based in any system of merit that the kids decide and then to donate the bitcoin from the winning entry to Rojava Plan in the name of the winner. Money will be around for a long time because it's so useful. It's the unlimited growth in human activities that cause death and destruction that needs to be reigned in. But I appreciate the honesty about your aim to create a pyramid scheme. I wasn't expecting that.

Craigs_Fractal_Team ? <Virtual_Universe> 2016-09-01 07:53 PDT
Donations rewarded with vote, vote value decreasing after each competition, coins will get the project to be talked about, and remembered, especially since neither coin nor votes will vanish. But the change of jury for the competitors, that is a good idea that needs to be incorporated into the project. Will think about it, and will welcome inputs. The coin pyramids though would make research into the potential of fractals appealing to many potential contenders. Hmmm... a Craigslist team searching for fractals that contain life, with or without coins? :D
((hah, here I found a misspelling, that I hope was not the cause of the thread deletion. But this is my thread now and I can correct the spelling; too much reliance on spellcheck and autocorrect))

Information isn't reality. Fractals will never <flyjazz> 2016-09-01 08:05 PDT
..."contain life." John Conway came up with an interesting cellular automaton in 1970 and called it the "Game of Life." That doesn't make fractals remotely biological. Your lack of response to the idea of donating the proceeds means that this is my final post. Pyramid schemes are illegal in the United States with good reason, and Craigslist is based in the U.S. Goodbye.

This is not a typical pyramid <Virtual_Universe> 2016-09-01 08:13 PDT
The coins gathered do not go back to those putting the coins in. This is not a pyramid scheme by the legal definition of it. But a pyramid as concept it is, after all. Maybe I should find a better way to express it, avoiding the misunderstandings. Fractal Funding? While, fractals containing or no life, that is something I would like to explore before saying it cannot be done. Max Tegmark and Greg Egan would agree. Donating the proceeds to a cause that is not #BAUniC does not sound appealing. I would rather give them to the winners. That is donating too, right? Judging who wins, though, that could use better ideas, as I said. But tempting people to talk about this and get engaged, this needs to be put into a balance. Which would be more productive, judges == donors? judges=/=donors.

Holographic Principle <CumberlandA> 2016-09-01 12:16 PDT
Superstring Theory has led to the absurdity that the Universe is a Simulation. Superstring must be rejected.

And that is all that we have from mail notifications. Guessing someone stirred the 2+2 deniers, trolls, and fanatics, and the conversation may have degenerated, forcing the hand of moderators to delete the thread. This is an example of how these arguments go on other forums too, but it was a surprise on Craigslist judging by how civil the conversation was till that point.

Of course there is little use forcing the Mathematical Universe Hypothesis on people. The point is planting a seed of idea. Fertile minds will pick it up and nurture it to growth. We are on the right side of history, and this is inevitable. It will come sooner or later. We like sooner, therefore the efforts alongside #BAUniC:Real, for example the sideprojects for promotion, like the #BAUniC:meme and #BAUniC:movie.

We know it is a sensitive subject. Sorry for the turmoil caused.

The translation offer still stands. Craigslist still helps making the world a better place, even if disagreeing on #BAUniC and its place in Craigslist. If there is a Craigslist-Albania in the future, we would like to help.
